Nashua North Clinches First Ever Playoff Berth

Posted Sunday, October 25, 2009 by Nitin Karkhanis
On a cold, wet night in late October the Nashua North Football Titans prevailed 49 - 48 over the Londonderry Lancers and secured the first playoff berth in school history!

It was another wild night at Stellos Stadium with both teams literally trading touchdowns for much of the game. The Titans struck first on their opening possession, a five play drive capped by a 53-yard touchdown run by Dylan Brodeur.
Londonderry would then score 3 unanswered touchdowns and go ahead 21 – 7. After scoring a touchdown on an onsides kick, Londonderry decided to kick it deep, and fortunately for Nashua, right to Jahmar Gathright. With a series of key blocks by his battery mates, Gathright ripped off an 82-yard kickoff return and trimmed the lead to 21 – 14.
Nashua then stopped Londonderry’s offense and scored twice in the final 5 minutes of the 1st half with scores by Andre Williams and Brandon Karkhanis. Both of these scores were setup by 40+ yard receptions caught by Gathright and Anton Marinchak.
Londonderry received the football to open the 2nd half and scored quickly to knot the game at 28 each. Nashua would regain the lead on great blocking by the big men upfront that allowed Karkhanis to score on a 32-yard QB keeper. Nashua would keep this lead until the 4th quarter when Londonderry would eventually score two touchdowns and take a 42 – 35 lead.

With time expiring. North tied the game on a 2-yard plunge by Andre Williams at 42 each. North was now facing their 1st overtime game of the year. North won the coin toss and elected to give Londonderry the ball. Londonderry scored on a 4th and goal to take a 48 – 42 lead. The play of the game came on the extra point attempt. North sent out their blocking team and Trevor Rancourt came up with the biggest play by blocking the kick and giving Nashua a chance to win the game.
The opportunistic North offense then scored on two running plays. After all those points, the game came down to the PAT with Nashua executing it to perfection taking the overtime win 49 – 48. Anthony Guidice was perfect hitting 7 of 7 PATs sealing the win and helping to send Nashua North to the playoffs for the first time in school history!
